What additives do I need for the waste-holding tank?

The waste-holding tanks of cassette and portable toilets are designed to function with additives for the temporary storage of toilet waste when a direct connection to sewage infrastructure is not present.
It can be overwhelming to see all the toilet additives on the market. Don’t worry; we’re here to help with this handy guide on toilet care products.

Waste-holding tank products
You collect human waste when using Thetford’s cassette toilet or Porta Potti. Thetford’s specially formulated toilet additives support hygiene by suppressing odours, preventing gas build-up, and liquefying waste for easy discharge at a dedicated discharging station.
Treating the waste inside the tank and keeping the waste-holding tank well-maintained is vital to avoid unhygienic situations, nasty smells, and even leakages.

Waste-holding tank products for regular use
Use a waste-holding tank product to treat the waste inside the cassette on a regular basis. Aqua Kem Blue Concentrated, PowerPods Blue, and Aqua Kem Blue Sachets make sure that the waste inside the tank is liquefied for easier discharging. It also reduces gas build-up and ensures outstanding odour control.
Aqua Kem Blue Concentrated (available in various fragrances) comes in liquid form in a bottle, allowing for customised dosing. PowerPods Blue and Aqua Kem Blue Sachets, both single dose products, offer you convenience.

Green and Bio waste-holding tank products
Introducing our environmentally conscious line of waste-holding tank products: Aqua Kem Green Concentrated and PowerPods Bio. Both products efficiently liquefy waste for easier emptying and ensure outstanding odour control. Plus, they’re both safe to use into a septic tank system. Aqua Kem Green comes in liquid form in a bottle. PowerPods Bio offers you the power of nature in a highly concentrated pod with innovative microorganism technology.

How to apply waste-holding tank products
Before you start using your toilet or after you’ve emptied the waste-holding tank, it’s time to add an additive. If you’re using a liquid product, use the measuring cup located on the pour-out spout of your cassette and follow the instructions on the label. Make sure the bottom of your cassette is filled with water before you start adding the toilet additive. By following the instructions on our labels, you minimise the environmental impact.

Periodical maintenance products
In addition to using the ‘regular use’ treatment products, it is crucial to incorporate periodical maintenance into your routine of both the waste-holding tank to avoid serious issues, such as leakages.
Duo Tank Cleaner Concentrated is a powerful periodical cleaner and helps to extend the life span of your waste-holding tank. Apply it two-three times a year to remove limescale and encrusting that built up over time. The technical parts inside the waste-holding tank are effectively cleaned by Duo Tank Cleaner Concentrated as well.

How to apply Duo Tank Cleaner Concentrated
Add 200 ML of Duo Tank Cleaner Concentrated to an empty waste-holding tank and top up with 5 L of fresh (preferably lukewarm) water. Give it a good shake (or take your motorhome for a drive). Let it rest for at least 16 hours, after which you can empty the tank, and rinse it out with fresh water. The waste-holding tank is now set for use or for winter storage. Adhere to the instructions on the label for the accurate dosing.

Seal Lubricant Spray
Protect and lubricate the seals of your caravan or motorhome toilet with Seal Lubricant Spray. It prevents the seals from drying out and ensures the smooth operation of the valves of your toilet. Refer to the instructions on the labels for proper application.
